⭐️ the nervous system✅ Flashcards
what is the nervous system made up of?
what are the two things it’s divided into?
neurons of cells that carry messages to and from the brain and spinal cord to different parts if the body
1- central nervous sytem (CNS)
2- peripheral nervous system (PNS)
CNS:
what is the CNS made up of?
what is the brain surrounded by?
what Is the brain separated into and what do they control?
the brain and the spinal cord
the cerebral Cortex
left and right hemispheres
left = controls right side of body
right= controls left side of body
CNS:
where does the spinal cord send messages to and from?
what is the spinal cord responsible for?
the brain
reflex actions eg. when you touch a hot surface it sends signals to your brain to take your hand away.
PNS:
how does the PNS send messages to and from the
CNS?
what can the PNS be subdivided into?
via neurons
- the autonomic nervous system = governs vital functions such as breathing rate and digestion.
- somatic nervous system = governs muscle movement and receives info from out sensory receptors
what is the somatic nervous system?
what is the autonomic nervous system?
transmits info from receptor cells, receives info from the CNS on how muscles act (voluntary movement)
transmits info to and from internal organs and its automatic → sympathetic and parasympathetic (involuntary)
