The Need for a Management Model Flashcards
General Management as ‘corporate governance’
Navigation of an organization through complexity and dynamic change
Management action
Characterized by the dynamics of change, complexity and the application of variable and situation-dependent reaction patterns; the “normal state”; “normal, unavoidable Management”
Unpredictability as a normal state (“The normally calculated chaos”)
describes management action; in reality, managerial activity is by no means characterized by continuity, consistent planning and structure - it is more chaotic and complex
Management models
can serve as a guide out of this “chaos”, here preferred in the form of holistic Management models that bundle the various action and decision dimensions of Management
How do Management models help?
they provide a frame of reference in situations of uncertainty, reduce complexity, help to prioritize the relevant and less relevant, and form an organizational framework that shows logical and causal relationships
A Management model is NOT…?
a “recipe book,” a collection of immediate practical recommendations for action or guidance on “right or wrong” decisions
