What is a null hypothesis
A statement of no effect or difference between two or more group factors
What is an alternative hypothesis
A statement that says there is an effect or difference
What is an independent variable
The manipulated variable (eg time)
What is the dependent variable
Responds to the changes in the independent variable (eg plant growth)
What is the control group
Stays constant through test groups (eg type of plant)
What is a control group
It is treated the same way as the experimental groups but it will not test the effect of the independent varible
What is positive control
A group in an experiment that receives treatment with a known result ( like water)
What is negative control
A group that provides results in the absence of the treatment
What is an outlier in data
A data value that lies outside of the main spread of data
Why is it good to have a lot of of data
It provides more reliable results
