In Motion Flashcards
What is kinematics
The study of objects in motion
What is the difference between scalar and vector quantities
Scalar quantities are fully described by magnitude only while vector uses both magnitude and direction
What would you call a scalar quality that refers to how much ground an object has covered during its motion
Distance
What is displacement
A vector quantity which refers to how far from the origin it is
Who is Aristotle
A Greek philosopher who believed in the law what comes up must comedown and did experiments related to that
Who is Galileo
An Italian scientist who thought an ideal world without friction
Who is sir Isaac newton
Put together all these ideas about force and motion
What is Newton’s first law
Objects that stay at rest, objects in motion stay in motion unless acted upon by an external or unbalanced force
What is Newton’s second law
Force is capable of changing the the direction of motion of an object
What is impulse
In order to change momentum a force must be applied over a period of time
How would you decrease the applied force to passengers in an accident
Air bag
Seat belt
Crumple zones
What is reaction time
The amount of time it takes for you to recognize a situation and react to it
What can affect reaction time
Poor visibility
Alcohol
Drugs
Age
