The Muscular System Flashcards
What is the functions of the Muscular System?
1) Movement
2) Circulation
3) Digestion
Identify the (3) Muscle Types?
1) Skeletal(voluntary)
2) Visceral (smooth, involuntary)
3) Cardiac Muscle
What is the characteristic / function of the Skeletal muscle?
Movement of the skeleton- under ourcontrol, including movementsof limbs, fingers, toes, neck.
Maintain body temperature.
Help blood circulation in the veins.
What is the characteristic / function of the Visceral muscle?
Smooth muscle is involuntary we cannot control these consciously.
Contain both Actin and Myosin but not arrangedin striped pattern.
Mononucleated so each cell hasits own nucleus.
Contractions are slower and dependent on the autonomic nervoussystem.
What is the characteristic / function of the Cardiac muscle?
The cardiac muscle must contract with enough force and enough blood to supply the metabolic demands of the entire body.
It is responsible forthe heartpumping throughout our life.
Identify two (2) antagonistic pairs?
1) Flexion
2) Extension
What are the characteristics of Flexion?
Bending a joint to decrease the angle between two bones or two body parts.
What are the characteristics of Extension?
Bending a joint to decrease the angle between two bones or two body parts.
Identify at least (4) four muscles in the body?
- latissimus dorsi
- trapezius
- deltoids
- pectorals
- biceps
- triceps
- abdominals
- gluteals
- hip flexors
- hamstring group
- quadriceps group
- gastrocnemius
- tibialis anterior
What is the Psychological Disorder associated with this system?
Muscular Dystrophy
Which Phycological Measurement is affected by Muscular Dystrophy?
