The Multi-Store Model Flashcards
What is in the multi-storey model?
- Environmental stimuli
- Sensory Memory
- Attention
- Short term memory - maintenance rehearsal or retrieval
- Maintenance rehearsal
- Long term memory (retrieval)
What is the sensory register?
The information of the senses. Information is only able to be held for a short period in the sensory register and accurate images momentarily. The capacity is large and coding depends on the sense
What is the multi-store model?
An explanation of memory based on three separate memory stores and how information is transferred between stores
What is attention?
If a persons attention is focused on one of the sensory stores then the data is transferred to the short-term memory
What is STM?
STM hasa short duration 2-18 seconds, a small capacity of 4 items/ chunks and an acoustically
What is maintenance rehearsal?
Religion that keeps information in STM then eventually is stored in LTM
What is LTM?
Unlimited duration, unlimited capacity and semantically coded
What is retrieval?
The process of Getting information from LTM to STM to make it available for use
