Q

مد لازم - كلمى

A

Madd laazim generally means an orginal madd followed by a saakin which is orginal. In kalami there are two types:

  • مُثَقَّل- this is when there is a Madd asli which is followed by a mushaddah letter in the same word. The Madd will be read for 6 counts. E.g الحاقّة الصاخّة
  • مُخَفَّف - Madd asli followed by a saakinah letter in the same word. The madd is now 6 counts. There is only one example in the Quran: Surah Yunus. V51 and 91.. ءَالْئٰنَ

Q

مد لازم - حرفي

A

This type of Madd laazim is only worked out through looking at the actual spelling of each letter. If it contains a Madd asli within the letter, then these letters will be prolonged for 6 counts and classed as Madd laazim Harfi:

  • سَنَقُصُّلَكُمْ - س ن ق ص ل ك م - all are 6 counts
  • حَيٌّطَهِّر - ح ي ط ه ر- all are only 2 counts (so not Madd laazim)
  • the letter ع can be either 2/4/6 count and the ا is 1 count.

MUKHAFFAF or MUTHAQQAL??

The Madd will only be classed as muthaqqal if it incooperates an idghaam when reading it. For e.g in الٓمٓ ، the ( لام ) is muthaqqal as the م follows it and causes a idghaam shafawii.

Mukhaffaf = NO idghaam
