What is the motor effect?
The force experienced by the current carrying wire in a magnetic field
What happens if either the current or the magnetic field is made bigger?
The force gets bigger
What happens if the direction of the current or magnetic field is reversed?
The direction of force is reversed too
How can you predict which way the force will act?
Using Flemings left hand rule
To experience full force what does the wire have to be?
At 90 degrees to the magnetic field
What would happen if the wire ran along parallel to the magnetic field?
It wouldn’t experience any force at all
At angles in between it would feel some force
Where should the first finger point?
In the direction of the field
Where should the second finger point?
In the direction of current
Where should the thumb point?
In the direction of the force (motion)
