Circular Motion Flashcards
What is velocity?
The speed and direction of an object
If an object is travelling in a circle what is it doing?
Constantly changing direction which means it’s velocity is constantly changing
What does a constantly changing velocity mean?
The object is accelerating (towards the centre of the circle)
What must there be to cause this acceleration?
À résultant force acting towards the centre of the circle ( that keeps the object moving in a circle)
What is the force called that keeps something moving in a circle?
A centripetal force
What are the three main types of centripetal force?
Friction
Tension
Gravity
When a car is going round a bend what is the centripetal force?
Friction between the cars tyres and the road
When a bucket is spinning round on a rope what is the centripetal force?
Tension in the rope
On a spinning fairground ride what is the centripetal force?
Tension in the spokes of the ride
What three things does centripetal force depend on? Ahahaha
Mass
Speed
Radius
What happens if an object is moving faster?
A greater centripetal force is needed to keep it moving in a circle
What happens with a larger layer of an object?
Th centripetal force has to be bigger to keep It moving in a circle
What happens If theres a smaller radius of the circle the objects moving in?
À larger centripetal force is needed to keep an object moving in a smaller circle
