The Mole & Equations Flashcards
What’s the formula for finding the number of moles from the number of atoms or molecules?
Number of moles = number of particles you have / number of particles in a mole ( avo’s constant)
What is the molar mass the mass of?
One mole of something (the same as the relative molecular mass)
What is the moles, mass, Mr formula?
Number of moles= mass of substance/molar mass
What is the concentration of a solution?
Now many moles are dissolved per 1 dm cubed of solution
How many cubic centimeters are in one cubic decimeter?
1000
What’s the ter mela connecting number of moles & concentration?
Number of moles = concentration (moldm^-3x volume (dm^3)
What types of reactions can be written as ionic equations?
Any reaction involving ions that happens in solution
What’s the definition of relative isotopic mass?
This is the mass of one atom of a given isotope of an element on a scale where one atom of the isotope carbon-12 is exactly 12
What is the definition of isotopes?
Atoms with the same number of protons, but with a different number of neutrons
What is the definition of a mole?
One mole of a substance is the amount of that substance that contains the same number of particles as there are atoms in exactly 12g of carbon-12 (6.02 x10^23 - avo’s constant)
What is the definition of relative atomic mass?
The average mass of one atom of the element, taking into account a,k of the isotopes and their abundances, on a scale where one atom of the isotope carbon-12 is exactly 12
