Q

what do most christians believe about mission?

A

-Christians, who have different understandings about many things to do with Christian practice and teaching, all agree that belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour is central to the faith.

-Most Christians also share the core belief in one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, as set out in the Nicene Creed.

  • They all share the same core texts in the Bible, especially the New Testament Gospels.

-For this reason, it is reasonable to talk about all Christians, however different their beliefs and practices, as ‘the Church’.

-Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus’ last instruction to his disciples was to, ‘make disciples of all nations.

-Jesus’ Parable of the Sheep and the Goats, where he made it clear that people were expected to do good things for people who were less fortunate than themselves.

-Both of these contribute to the Church’s view of what it should do as the body of people who follow Jesus Christ.

Q

mission

A

-The word ‘mission’ comes from the Latin word mittere, which means ‘to send’.

  • Christians believe that when Jesus said, ‘Go, therefore, and make disciples’, he
was not only talking to his disciples who were there with him, but to everyone who would follow him in the future.
