What is the fibrous pericardium?
a protective layer that is attached to the great vessels and diaphragm and works to anchor the heart in place
What is the serous pericardium?
includes the parietal and visceral pericardium
What are the three divisions of the inferior mediastinum?
anterior, middle and posterior
What is in the anterior mediastinum?
thymus
What is in the middle mediastinum?
pericardium and heart
What is in the posterior mediastinum?
primary bronchi, oesophagus, descending aorta, thoracic duct, azygos and hemiazygos veins
What is the venous drainage of the anterior intercostal veins?
internal thoracic vein
What is the venous drainage of the posterior intercostal eins?
Right side is azygos vein
Left side is hemiazygos vein
