We regard our possessions as part of ourselves. We are what we have and possess.

The Principles of Psychology
Understanding the self can be examined through its different components:
- Its constituents (material self, social self, spiritual self, and pure ego)
- The feelings and emotions they arouse (self-feeling)
- The actions to which they prompt (self-seeking and self-preservation)
The primary components of Material Self:
• Body
• Clothes
• Immediate Family
• Home
It is the innermost part. We make sure that it functions well and good
Body
It is an essential part of material self. It is our form of self expression
Clothes
An idea saying “anytime we bring an object into the surface of our body, we invest that object into the consciousness of our personal existence takings in its contours to be our own and making it part of the self”

What they do and become affects us. It is the nearest replica of ourselves.
Immediate Family
Earliest nest of selfhood. Holds records and markings of our experiences. An extension of self where we can directly connect to

It is defined as a “value system that is preoccupied with possesions and the social image they project is both socially destructive and self-destructive.”
Materialism
What will happen if people become more materialistic according to Journal Motivation and Emotion
As people become more materialistic, their well-being, sense of purpose, good relationships will diminishes.
This is the dreadful mistake we are making in our material self :
Allowing ourselves to believe that having more money and more stuff enhances our wellbeing
