The Lymphatic and Immune System Flashcards
What Āsana would benefit the spleen?
- Almost all Āsana aids in supporting the spleen - spine twists (left side), forward bends, lateral flexion on left side (Speel in located on the left side)
- Prāṇāyāma practices such as Bhastrikā and Kapālabhāti
List two (2) Yoga practices you would include in your class to support the immune system and why?
Pranayama – Activate PSNS, reduce cortisol/inflammation
Bandha – creates pressure to move lymph fluid
Inversions – using gravity to help lymph fluid move to clavicle vein to return to the heart.
Music, voice, theme
List four (4) Āsana (in Sanskrit and English) that would support the lymphatic system.
Prasarita Paddottanasana – (standing wide legged forward fold)
Space through groin for increased blood flow, gravity and compression through front of groin and digestive system. Diaphragm working against gravity to expand. Engage PSNS and change of perspective to find introspection
Viparita Karani (Legs up the wall) Gravity, helps lymphatic flow, engages PSNS, engages different pumps, changes perspective
Surya Namaskar
flow of fluid really freely through body. Builds Agni which in turn kills off any potential harmful bacteria
Garadasana – Eagle pose
Squeezing leg muscles for increased blood flow, increase cardiovascular system, benefiting immune system. Squeezing through lymph nodes in groins. Arms creates compression through chest for lymph nodes and thymus gland.
