The Lung And Ventilaion Flashcards
Humans need to take oxygen for
Respiration
Gas exchange happens where
In side the lungs
Air enters and leaves the lungs through a pipe called
Trachea
What are the lungs held up by
Rings of cartilage
The lungs are situated where
Inside the chest cavity called the thorax
The thorax is surrounded by the
Ribs
The diaphragm lies across the bottem of the
Thorax
The lungs are attached to
The rib cage
And the diaphragm
By the pleural membrane
The ribs can be moved by the
Intercostal muscles
The trachea divides into two
Bronchi
The bronchi divides into smaller tubes
Bronchioles
At the end of the bronchioles are
Tiny air sacks called alveoli
When you breath in what happens to the intercostal muscles the diaphragm and the volume and the pressure
The intercostal muscles contract
Pulling the rib. Cage up and out the diaphragm muscle contract pulling the diaphragm flatter. Increases the volume of the thorax and reduces the pressure inside it as a result air is pulled into the lungs
Breath out what happens to the intercostal muscles diaphragm and
Volume and pressure
Intercostal muscle relax Rib cage returns to normal Diaphragm relaxes Reduce volume in the thorax Increase pressure with in it
The trachea is lined with cells called the
Epithelium cells
