The Lens Flashcards
What is a cataract? Most common cause?
Opacification of the crystalline lense; Old age
What is phacomorphic glaucoma?
Obstruction of the pupil caused by the swollen lens
What is a mature cataract?
Entire degeneration of the lense
What is a hypermature cataract?
Escape of lenticular debris into the aqueous humor diminishing the volume of the lens
What is phacolytic glaucoma?
Lenticular material from the lens that is engulfed by macrophages blocks the flow of aqueous humor
What is a simple nuclear sclerotic cataract?
Aging of lens fibers resulting in brown/black cataract
What is a morgagian cataract?
Liquefication of peripheral lens
What is presbyopia?
Failure to accommodate due to loss of elasticity of the lens
What is phacoanaphylactic endophthalmitis?
Autoimmune granulomatous reaction to lens proteins
