The Kalam cosmological argument Flashcards
step 1 of the cosmological argument
Whatever begins to exist has a cause
Support: through experience we see causation, which makes intuitive / logical sense
step 2 of the cosmological argument
the universe began to exist
support: the big bang, we can trace the beginning of the universe to a single point
conclusion of the cosmological argument
therefore the universe has a cause
since the universe cant cause itself this cause must be… (5 things)
Un-caused Timeless Spaceless Immaterial being of unfathomable power
i.e God
arguments against
we cant see the whole universe, its possible that the universe is not as limited as we think, things can become illogical
this local universe may be the result of a big bang but the multiverse theory could give evidence for an infinite number of universe, not all of which had a beginning
