What is the judicial system founded upon?
The presumption of innocence in criminal matters, meaning everyone is innocent until proven guilty.
What four heritages is Canada’s legal system built under?
(1) rule of law
(2) freedom under the law

What is due process?
The principle that the government must respect all of legal rights a person is entitled to under the law.
Who makes laws?
Elected representatives
What is the country’s highest court?
The Supreme Court
What does the Federal Court do?
Deals with matters concerning the federal government.
What are other names for trial court?
Court of Queen’s Bench or the Supreme Court.
What are the two types of police force?
Provincial police forces in Ontario and Quebec and municipal police departments in all provinces
What is The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) ?
They enforce federal laws throughout Canada, and serve as the provincial police in all provinces and territories except Ontario and Quebec, as well as in some municipalities.
