4 million demobilised soldiers all needed jobs, pressuring the economy
What was a result of industrialisation?
Less need for immigrant manpower, leading to a desire to end the ‘open door’ immigration policy (1917 literacy test introduced), worsened by the increasing intolerance of foreigners and fear of communism
