The Impact Of Slavery Flashcards
Who did slavery impact
Slavery impacted millions of people because they were enslaved and taken from their families.
They were sometimes killed and this impact their families because they never saw them again
Slavery also impacted millions of white people because they earned a lot of money by having slaves and they did not have to do that
Why do you think white people earned a lot of money from owning slaves
They earned a lot of money because they would often trade slaves for other larger things which they would then sell and get a lot of money
Slaves also worked on plantation farm so white people would sell these plantations and get a lot of profit
Name three things the slaves went through when being enslaved
Number one: slaves had an extremely hard labour and were forced to work 18 hours a day because Mills ran 24 hours a day so this means that slaves had to be working for a long time
Slaves had very poor housing and often slipped outdoors
Most slaves died because they were very unhealthy. They had a diet of corn and faulty meat: meat that is undercooked and made slaves very sick
How long was the expected life of a slave when they were enslaved?
A slaves life was extremely short. The expected amount of years a slave lived was 7 to 9 years. This was because slaves died of sicknesses or often killed themselves because they thought death was more appealing than being a slave.
