The Boat Trips Flashcards
Describe what the boat trip was like for slaves
The boat trip was horrific for slaves.
Slaves were tightly packed and forced not to talk.
Mothers and children were separated.
Children were allowed to roam freely.
Mothers were sexually abused and often came off the ship, if they survived, with children that the fathers were often the crew.
Men were forced to come up onto the deck of the ship and dance or exercise to keep them exercise or just to entertain the crew.
What did the crew do to the slaves when they were sick?
Slaves often caught diseases from being tightly packed and not having enough airflow. When they were sick they were forced overboard or killed.
Why do you think children were kept separate from their parents?
I think children kept from their parents because it was very harsh to keep children enslaved and the parents were the ones who were going to do work.
Why were slaves heads shaved when they boarded the ship.
Slave she was shaved of their heads because they wanted to prevent Lice and didn’t want the whole ship getting Lice.
