The Human Heart Flashcards
What are all of the parts of the human heart?
aorta
pulmonary vein
left and right atrium (atria)
atrioventricular valves
non conducting tissue
pumonary artery
vena cava
left ventricle and right ventricle
semilunar valves
SAN = sinatrial node
AVN = atriventricular node
bundle of his
purkyne fibres
What is the aorta?
biggest artery
What is the pumonary vein?
blood that comes from lungs and goes into left atrium of heart
What is the left and right atrium?
left and right side of heart
upper heart chambers
What is the pumonary artery?
blood leaving the heart going towards the lungs
What is the vena cava?
its a vein - coming towards heart from the body
What is the left (g) and right ventricle (h) ?
lower part of heart’s chambers
g = has the most muscle, contracts with the greatest force as it sends blood to the whole body, has the highest blood pressure
What is the atrioventricular valves?
makes sure blood flows one way - one way valves
they open when the blood pressure is high in the atria than in ventricles
What are the semilunar valves?
one way valves - make sure blood goes in one way
they open when the pressure in ventricles is greater than in the pulmonary atery or aorta or blood vessels
What is the sinoatrial node (SAN) ?
initiates heart beat
sends electrical impulse
What is the atrioventricular node (AVN)?
delays electrical impulse
this allows atria to contract (empty) before ventricles contract
transmits single down the centre of heart
What is the bundle of His and purkyne fibres?
electrical impulse cause the ventricles to contract from the base upwards
What is non conducting tissue? (the blue line thing)
stops the electrical implse from SAN reacting ventricles
What is non conducting tissue? (the blue line thing)
stops the electrical implse from SAN reacting ventricles
