Circulatory Systems Flashcards
What are the 4 types of circulatory systems?
single
double
open
closed
What is a single circulatory system?
body passes through deoxygenated blood into heart which passes blood into gills of fish and then oxygenated blood back into body
What is a double circulatory system?
oxygenated blood from lungs to left atrium, through heart into body, respiration occurs, then goes into right atrium, and back into lungs
What is open circulatory system?
blood is pumped into an open space that surrounds cells
exchange takes place by diffusion e.g. glucose and amino acid
not oxygen (diffuse htrough spriacles and along trachea)
blood drains back to heart
e.g. insects
What is closed circulatory system?
blood remains inside blood vessels at all times
arteries -> arterioles -> capillaries -> venules and veins
exchange takes place at the capllaries by diffusion e.g. oxygen, glucose, etc.
e.g. mammals fish and birds
