What were the first signs of anti-semitism in history?

A

2000 years ago, Jews were blamed by Christians for the desth of Jesus. By the year 1000 CE, almost everyone in Europe was Christian. Jews who didn’t share Christian beliefs became the target for persecution. They were also blamed for crises such as plagues and became a scapegoat for problems.

How were Jews segregated?

A

Jewish people couldn’t do certain jobs and had to live separately in ghettos. They were often forced to wear hats badges or certain items of clothing to shoes they were Jewish.

What was Jewish life like in Medievel England?

A

1066, William the Conqueror encouraged to settle in the country. Jewish people were given protection by the king in the 1100s. Jewish people started getting blamed for lots of other things finally in 1290, King Edward 1 orders all Jews to leave the country. It was not until 1655, that these laws were removed, and Jews returned.

What was Holocaust?

A

The holocaust was a time during the Second World War (1939 to 1945) that the mass killing of approximately 6 million Jews across the Europe occurred.The defeat of Nazi Germany and his allies in 1945 brought the killings to an end. 2/3 of Jews who lived in Europe before the war were killed, including approximately 90% of all Jewish children.

What other groups of people were persecuted and killed in concentration camps by the Nazis?

A

During this period the Roma and centi people (sometimes called gypsies), also face terrible discrimination and imprisonment in Nazi camps. An estimated 500,000 were murdered during the second World War. Other groups included: disabled people, gay men, Jehovah’s Witnesses political opponents, Polish and Soviet civilians and prisoners of war from the Soviet union.

What and when were the new Nuremberg laws?

A

In 1935, the Nurenberg laws declared the only those of German or related blood, were illegible to German citizens. It also forbid marriages and sexual relationships between Jews and Germans.
