Q

How does the greenhouse effect work?

A

When electromagnetic waves from the sun enter the atmosphere the short wavelength radiation e.g. X-rays are absorbed
The long wavelength radiation e.g infrared is reflected of the earth and into space
Some of the infrared radiation is absorbed by the greenhouse gasses and the atmosphere warms up
