What is history?
A study from the past
What is prehistory?
Prehistory is the time before there were any written records,to study it we must rely on evidence found by archaeologists
What is archaeology?
Archaeology is the study of the remains left by people in the past
What is a source?
Something that gives us information or evidence about a person, place or thing in the past
What do historians have to look out for when looking for information?
They have to be aware of propaganda, bias and exaggeration
What is a primary source?
A source from the time in question; a first-hand account of what happened
What is a secondary source?
A source from a later date, after the time in question
What does cross checking mean?
When more then 1 source is used to make sure the information is correct
What does bias?
When an account is not balanced, but unfairly favours one side
What does exaggeration mean?
When something is represented as better or worse than it actually was
What does propaganda mean?
Information that has been designed to influence the attitudes and behaviours of the general public
What historical respiratorys do archaeologists use to find evidence?
They use archives, libraries and museums
What is an artefact?
Any human-made object, e.g. pottery,tool or weapon such as a spear
What is chronology ?
Putting events into the sequence in which they happened
What is an archaeologist?
Someone who investigates places and objects left by people in the past,including the time before written records were kept
