The Heart & Layers Flashcards
1
Q
Layers of the Heart
A
Epicardium Myocaridum Endocardium
2
Q
Epicardium
A
- Visceral layer of pericardial sac
- Reduces friction
- Made up of simple squamous
3
Q
Myocardium
A
Cardiac Muscle
4
Q
Endocardium
A
- inside the heart chambers
- (Endothelium is lining of BVs coming into heart
- made of simple squamous because it needs to be slick
5
Q
Superior Vena Cava
A
- means “great vein:
- brings blood from upper body to right atrium
6
Q
Inferior Vena Cava
A
- Brings blood from lower body to right atrium
7
Q
Right Atrium
A
- Receives deoxygenated blood from the vena cavas
8
Q
Tricuspid Valve
A
- One way valve that allows blood to move from Rt. Atrium to Rt. Venricle
- Has 3 tendons called cordae tendonae anchored to the papillary muscles
9
Q
Right Ventricle
A
- Pumps blood through the pulmonary semi-lunar valves and into pulmonary trunk which separates into the two pulmonary arteries
10
Q
Pulmonary Semi-Lunar Valve
A
- pulmonary= lungs
- semi-lunar= half moon leaflets
- named after the pulmonary artery
11
Q
Pulmonary Artery
A
- blood is going away from the heart to the lungs
- Artery Always Away
12
Q
Pulmonary Veins
A
- carry oxygenated blood from lungs to heart
- 2 from left lung, 2 from right lung
13
Q
Left Atrium
A
Receives blood from pulmonary veins
14
Q
Bicuspid Valve (Mitral Valve)
A
Built like the tricuspid but with only 2 leaflets
15
Q
Left Ventricle
A
- Pumps oxygenated blood to the rest of the body
- Strongest part of the heart
16
Q
Aortic Semi-Lunar Valve
A
- built like pulmonary SL valve
- name given because it is located in the aorta
17
Q
Aortic Arch
A
- largest artery in the body
- carries blood to the rest of the body
- descending aorta drops down behind
- (aorta about the size of your thumb)
18
Q
Brachiocephalic Artery
A
- branches into the right subclavian and right common carotid
- feeds right arm and right face/brain
19
Q
Common Carotid Artery
A
feeds left side of face and brain
20
Q
Left Subclavian Artery
A
feeds left arm
