Connective Tissue Flashcards

1
Q

Collagen fibers

A

Strongest proteins the body makes, it’s formed by the cell. Vitamin C and the mineral copper are needed to form strong collagen fibers a.k.a =white fibers

Q

Characteristics of connective tissue

A

*most common tissue *more matrix than cells *fibers running though the matrix *vascularity varies with different connective tissues *cella are names by tissue they make

Q

Elastic fibers

A

Can do what collagen can’t…which is return to their original position once they have been pulled or stretches. A.K.A.= yellow

Q

Adipose Tissue

A

-Loose connective tissue designed to store fat -Found beneath skin, around joints, padding the kidneys & other internal organs

Q

Bone Tissue (what letter?)

A

Bone cells, called osteocytes, lie within lacunae and are arranged in concentric circles

Q

Cartilage (what letter?)

A

-Rigid connective tissue providing supportive framework= -Lacks a vascular system, so it heals slowly

Q

Collagen Fibers (what letter?)

A

(B) Thick white fibers that are very strong & are made by the fibroblasts through protein synthesis.

16
Q

Cartilage Connective Tissue Characteristics

A

-Matrix is firm because of proteoglycans -AVascular- actually discourages by formation -Cells(chondroacytes) must live in pools because of the firm matrix. Pools are called Lacunae. -No room for nerves -Perichondrium surrounds the cartilage

17
Q

Hyaline Cartilage

A

-toughest cartilage there is -wear & tears end of joints, nose, trachea, connecting ribs to sternum -white= loaded with collagen fibers

18
Q

Adipose Tissue (CT Proper)

A

-very vascular -rule breaker-has cellularity

19
Q

Loose Reticular (CT Proper)

A

-Makes up framework of non hollow organs (spleen, liver, lymph nodes) -very vascular to filter the lymph

20
Q

Dense Irregular (CT Proper)

A

-Packed with fibers & not much room for blood vessels; slow healing -Strength in ALL directions -Periosteum (around bone), perichondrium (around cartilage), perimysium epimysium (around m+), blood vessels, & GI tract

21
Q

Dense Regular (CT Proper)

A

-again not many blood vessels=slow healer -all fibers in one direction=strength in one direction -tendons, ligaments, fibrous membranes

22
Q

Dense Elastic (CT Proper)

A

-Mainly found under transitional epithelium, wall of respiratory pathways, wall of blood vessels -can form elastic ligaments that allows movement of vertebrae

Q
A

Dense Irregular (CT Proper)
