\*IV Fluids administration & increase caloric intake \*IV antibiotics \*Debridement (Removal of dead skin) wrapping wounds w/ protective covering or skin grafts. \*Many months of skin grafts & compression bandages. (keeps scar tissue thickness down) & physical/emotional therapy.

2nd degree burns, S&S, Healing Timer, & Treatment

Epidermis & into the dermis S&S: Painful, red, blisters, pealing of damaged/ dead skin days later Healing: 7-10 days depending on how deep the burn. Treatment: Cool compress, aloe vera, do not break blisters. (can open the skin to infection).

Malignant Melanoma

\*3-5% of skin cancers (This % is growing) \*sun exposure & has a genetic link (Increase w/ tanning bed.) \*Grows down through the basement membrane & can be spread. (metastasis) \*DEADLY, survival depends on early detection.

3rd degree burns, S&S, Healing Timer, & Treatment

Entire thickness of the epidermis & dermis S&S: No pain!! Whitish or grayish color, sometimes skin slippage, & oozing of fluid. Healing: Months to one year depending on location & percentage of body burned. Treatment: % of body burned is determined using the "rule of nines" Critical burn & several things must be done at one time in order to help a patient survive.
