The Heart Flashcards
What are the chambers in the heart
top two are the atriums, and bottom two are the ventricles
What chambers are thin?
The atriums
What chambers are thick?
The ventricles
What does the right atrium do?
- receives deoxygenated blood from body and delivers it to the right ventricle
What does the right ventricle do?
pumps deoxygenated blood to lungs to be transformed into oxygenated blood
What does the left atrium do?
receives oxygenated blood from lungs and delivers it to the left ventricle
What does the left ventricle do?
pumps oxygenated blood to the rest of the body
What do the valves do?
make sure that blood doesn’t flow backwards or in the wrong direction
What do veins do?
collect deoxygenated blood to the heart
What does the vena cava do?
Recieves blood from the body into heart
What does the septum do?
separates the ventricles and allows proper blood flow through the heart
What pumps blood from the body to the lungs (and back)?
Right atrium and ventricle
What pumps blood from the body to the heart (and back)?
Left atrium and ventricle
