North Carolina was known for being very racist

Why did the greensboro four want to protest in Woolworth?
They thought it was hypocritical they would buy school supplies in the shop but could not buy food at the whites-only counter
How did the sit-ins grow? (how many states)
It grew quickly and mo re and more people sat in white-only counters, not only in Greensboro but in 13 different states
How did whites react to the sit ins?
They reacted with violence, They poured hot coffee on them, taunted them and kicked them. The protesters did not more and remained peaceful.
How did the police react?
They arrested over 2,000 POC but did nothing the the brutal whites
How did the media react to the sit-ins?
The media showcased the events in the news showing the POC as peaceful and the whites as violent

- Publicity, Due to the media, the civil rights movement gained lots of support
- Desegregation of facilities, in 1960 Woolsworth desegregated their lunch counter, many other company’s followed.
- The formation of the SNCC (student nonviolent coordinating committee) which helped many future campaigns
