This was the banning of alcohol in America as it was believed to be the cause of problems in America, and this was the government solution.
In Gatsby: Gatsby was a bootlegger - it is how he made his money, through the illegal selling of alcohol in speakeasies.
The Harlem Renaissance
A intellectual and cultural revival of African-American music, dance, fashion, literature, theatre, politics etc - There was more representation of black people in society, with African-American writers becoming successful
Flappers
These were the new women of the 1920s, they subverted any traditional stereotype which was expected of women.
They smoked, drank, had short haircuts, wore knee high dresses. They prevailed sexual/economic/political freedom for women.
