What was the Delian league?
A military league that made up Athens and most other city-states that formed out of the fear of the Persians returning. Centered in Athens.
What happened with the Delian league as time progressed?
Pericles began to use the treasury of the Delian League to pay citizens for attending assembly and democracy. As city-states tried to leave, Athens threatened to invade. The Delian League was looking more like an Athenian Empire.
What was the Peloponnesian League?
A military league that made up Sparta and Corinth
What was Pericles new policy?
Anti-Sparta and make peace with the Persians
What caused the Peloponnesian war?
The Delian League and its quarrels with Sparta, the conflict and tension of the rising power of Athens.
What happened during the Peloponnesian war?
Sparta could not reach Athens who is surrounded by walls and brought the slaves and farmers into the city. The plague hits Athens and Pericles dies, this opens up a power struggle between Strategos while Persia gives Sparta a Navy where they win the battle of Arginusae. This turning point is when Athens loses support of the people and Sparta wins the war.
