- the imperative verbs show that the ghost is to be obeyed, he is in control

-verb ‘exclaimed’ makes the ghost seem more welcoming and open hearted

‘He’d better do it and decrease the surplus population’
- using Scrooge’s words against him
- saying he needs to change his ways and holds a mirror against him and his behaviour

-haunting appearance and atmosphere
‘Solemn’ means to be characterised by deep sincerity

(Scrooge) ‘his legs were trembling beneath him… could hardly stand’
- the presence of the ghost makes Scrooge afraid
- his inability to stand firm shows how he is worried of the future the ghost will show him
Slowly , gravely , silently like mist
- Pathetic fallacy
- mysterious, the point of him is that we can’t see him or hear him
Like the future , it’s mysterious
