- capitalism is the ideology that man must look after himself and if someone is poor it’s their fault
- Therefore Scrooge treats the poor with no mercy
- ironically Scrooge is a victim as his life is empty and lonely. Out of the thousands of people that are alive , 0 are with him
- but because he is a capitalist , all he cares about is money

- the message was to warn Scrooge to change his ways or he will have to carry the burden(chain) for the rest of his life after he dies

- We see how other people view wealth as a capitalist would view wealth as it is for themselves.
- But not everyone thinks like that, some people belive that wealth should and can be used for other thinks
- Scrooge wealth is pointless as he barely puts the heating on, lives on his own and eats vegetables every day.
- Also we can tell that no one likes him , but when he changes , he is even more of a bigger deal

- people and especially wealthy people are ignorant of the struggles of the poor and the struggles of the poor growingup
- The poor go through a visous cycle of poverty , suffering and young pregnancies and this is because society is unaware of it
- the girl symbolises basic needs. Because society is ignorant, it creates people who want basic needs , those people don’t get those basic needs
- The boy and girl are shown as children as they are the most innocent.This has been done to persuade the audience

- “sharp” sharp things cause damage when it’s in contact with something…like how Scrooge treats others , he damages them
- “hard” Scrooge is a difficult person as he is not only ignorant, but also very stubborn

- we can see how Scrooge has changed thoughts out the play from being hard and sharp to being light as a feather
- “feather” connotes soft as Scrooge is now a changed man and has became nicer and more generous. Also suggests he is like a bird in the sense that they are peaceful and graceful
