Q

What did Lord Kelvin propose? (3)

A

He proposed that the energy of molecules of a gas should reach zero at -273 degrees C.

He proposed that the temp -273 degrees C should be considered the lowest possible temperature (absolute zero).

He set up a new scale of temperature with the zero mark at absolute zero and each degree rise was the same as a degree rise on the celsius scale.

Q

In theory, what would a gas be like when at the zero mark of the kelvin scale?

A

In theory, at the zero mark of the kelvin scale, a gas would occupy zero volume if it could be cooled indefinitely without becoming a liquid or a solid.
