The Gas Laws: 1. Boyles Law Flashcards
1
Q
What did Robert Boyle do and find? (3)
A
He built an air pump and used this pump to investigate how the volume of a fixed mass of gas, kept at constant temperature, varied with changes in pressure.
Boyle found that as the pressure increased, the volume decreased.
The volume is inversely proportional to the pressure.
2
Q
Define Boyle’s Law
A
Boyle’s law states that, at constant temperature, the volume of a fixed mass of gas is inversely proportional to its pressure
