=quickly organised itself and formalised its rules. Nation wide support
-Rules agreed for hurling, football,athletics and weightlifting in February 1885
-clubs were formed
-games on Sundays. Not allowed before
-banned people from playing if they also played foreign sports

-IRB not as prominent
-GAA created links with organisations such as the Gaelic League by promoting the Irish language
-new rules were appealing
-Croke Park (jones road at the time) was bought in q913 from major events
