-british had industrial revolution
-irish emigrated to british cities(liverpool,glasgow,manchester)
-sailed on crowded steamships built for animals and grain.

-among the poorest,living in the slum of the industrial revolution. When they got work, accepted low wages(made them unpopular to working class)
-many died cause of diseases due to unsanitary conditions of the slums
-when conditions began to improve, irish became part of the working class, working as publicans or shopkeepers
-involved in building trade and transport
-heavily involved in british canal, road and rail networks,gradually married into the population
