How does NGS methods of Ion torrent and Illumina work ?
Ion torrent: uses H+ release during sequence synthesis to determine change in sequence
Illumina: uses fluorophore during sequence synthesis to determine change in sequence
How does nanopore sequencing work?
Protein nanopore is conjugated to exonuclease and pulls DNA though pore. Different bases give different voltage and allows detection of sequence
What is tested in blood tests for bowel cancer recurrence
Carcinogenic embryonic antigen
What is panel sequencing?
A subset of genes related to cancer is sequenced to inform treatment choice or new therapeutic agents.
How does PET scan work?
Deoxyglucose is taken into cells that are metabolically active and cant escape so when it releases 2 gamma photons detected by gamma camera and shown on scan. Brain and bladder are always shown as metabolically active
Difference between oncolytic virus and adenoviral vector
Oncolytic virus: preferentially infects cells and kills them.
Adenoviral vector: can switch on/off genes eg driver genes in cancer
How does CAR T cell therapy work?
T cell taken from patient, specific cancer targeted and edited. Given back to the patient for cure eg leukemia.
