What is democracy?
When you are free to: protest, vote, have opinions, follow a religion
What does liberty mean?
When you are free to do anything that doesn’t harm others.
Who were the Bourgeois?
These people were rich. They were not able to vote. They weren’t able to worship who they wanted. They wanted fair taxes.
Who were the Sans-culottes?
They were poor but had enough money to survive. They wanted rent and bread prices to lower. They had low wages and wanted the king to understand their needs.
Who were the Peasants?
These people were very poor. They had to pay other people’s taxes. They wanted the church to become less powerful.
What did the Bourgeois do to get what they wanted?
They peacefully protested. They drew up a list of grievances. They created a national assembly representing 98% of the people and took a vote on taxes demonstrating peacefully. They ended up not getting what they had wanted.
What did the Sans-Culottes do to get what they wanted?
They were very violent when protesting. They looted and killed. They also kidnapped the king…..
What did the Peasants do to get what they wanted?
They were also violent but not as violent as the Sans-culottes. They burned church buildings down and made them cry ‘the great fear!’ They also committed arson
What is revolution?
It is an attempt to change the system of government.

The working class are poor and have no power the middle classes are rich but have no power The rulers and upper classes are rich and refuse to share power
