The Four Torques Flashcards
Hover Torque
HT is derived from the PPC. The torque value is the maximum torque allowable (simulated) for the first maneuver (the reconnaissance) . It also serves as a reference for determining predicted torque.
ATM B-5
Predicted Torque
The maximum torque believed required for each maneuver. For the vast majority of approaches, this should be actual torque.
ATM B-5
Expended Torque
The highest torque value used to accomplish each maneuver, the landing, and the takeoff. The amount of torque used, as well as when it is used, is noted by the non-flying pilot.
ATM B-5
Actual Torque
The actual torque required to hover in a landing zone (LZ) at the height, location, and direction previously established.
ATM B-5
When must both expended torque and actual torque be predicted?
When expended torque will be greater than actual torque.
ATM B-5
What are the approaches where expended torque will be greater than actual torque?
Very steep, tailwind, approaches to very small pinnacles, and approaches to small pinnacles and ridge lines where turbulence and strong down drafts are penetrated on short final.
