P2 Flashcards
5 Main Parts of the Engines
Axial Compressor, Reduction Gearbox, Power Turbine, Transmission Shaft and Accessory Gearbox, Gas Generator High Pressure Section
Types of Drag
Parasite = Non-lifting portions of helicopter
Profile = Friction of rotor blades through air
Induced = Production of lift. High angles of attack produce more.
Total Drag = Sum of all drag
Dynamic Rollover Human Factors
⌲ Inattention
⌲ Inexperience
⌲ Inappropriate control inputs
⌲ Failure to take timely corrective action
⌲ Loss of visual reference
What two parts of the PPC are calculated using current conditions?
Go/No Go Torque and Predicted Hover Torque
Define Dissymmetry of Lift
Difference in lift between advancing and retreating halves of the rotor disk caused by the different wind flow velocity across each half. AOA is the only variable in the lift equation that accounts for this through blade flapping and cyclic feathering.
What are the four stages of hypoxia?
Indifferent (0-10,000 ft)
Compensatory (10,000-15,000 ft)
Disturbance (15,000-20,000 ft)
Critical (20,000 ft and up)
Describe Chronic Fatigue and give the eight characteristics associated with it.
This type of fatigue is much more serious than acute fatigue, occurs over a longer period, and is typically the result of inadequate recovery from successive periods of acute fatigue.
Insomnia, Depressed Mood, Irritability, Weight Loss, Poor Judgment, Loss of Appetite, Slowed Reaction Time, Poor Motivation and Performance on the Job
Define Spatial Disorientation and list the three types
A pilot’s erroneous perception of position, attitude, or motion in relation to the gravitational vertical and the Earth’s surface.
Type I: Unrecognized (most dangerous)
Type II: Recognized
Type III: Incapacitating
What are the three prohibited flight maneuvers?
Aerobatic Maneuvers
Flight into icing conditions
Intentional full autorotations to the ground

What are the Human Factors to be considered in the prevention of dynamic rollover?
Inattention

Failure to take timely corrective action
Inappropriate control input

Explain why hovering OGE requires more power than hovering IGE
Induced flow velocity is increased causing a decrease in angle of attack. A higher blade pitch angle is required to maintain the same angle of attack as in IGE hover. The increased pitch angle also creates more drag.
