S&S of Ottawa Ankle Rules
Ages 2-55
- Tenderness over posterior distal 6cm or tup of the medial or lateral malleolus
- Tender over the base of the 5th metatarsal
- Tender over navicular
- Inability to take 4 weight bearing steps (total)
S&S of Stress Fracture
Pain more intense after exercise than before
Point tenderness
S&S of LisFranc Fracture
Accessory motions of these joints painful, hypermobile, or crepitus
S&S of Calcaneal Apophysitis (sever’s disease)
Antalgic gait
Localized pain/tenderness
Tight Achilles tendon
S&S of Morton’s Neuroma
Often have numbness/tingling distally
- Patient’s may not realize they have lost sensation
S&S of Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome
May present with heel pain distal to compression
Dimished sensation (patient may not know…)
S&S of Compartment Syndrome
Swelling/taught/shinny skin
AROM painful with compartment compressed
PROM painful when compartment stressed
May have sensory imvolvement
May have foot drop
Pain with resitance
S&S of Shin Splints
Tightness/tenderness along tibia/fibula
Hypermobile feet/pronated feet
Supinated feet
S&S of Tibialis Posterior Strain
Pain at insertion on navicular or in sulcus behind medial malleolus
Pain with walking/running
Slight swelling
AROM painful with plantar-flexion and inversion
PROM painful with dorsiflexion and eversion
Point tender on post. tib. tendon
S&S of Peroneal Tendinitis
Resisted AROM eversion is painful
PROM inversion is painful
Tender over peroneal tendons
May have ankle instability
S&S of Achilles Tendinitis
Decreasedlexability of gastroc/soleus
Hyperpronation
Tenderness over tendon
S&S of Retrocalcaneal Bursitis
Localized swelling and warmth
Tenderness to palpation
Pain with AROM and PROM
S&S of Achilles Tendon Rupture
Palpable/visible defect in tendon
Swelling and ecchymosis
Weak plantar-flexion
S&S of Plantar Fascitis
Pain in heel which is worse in the morning
Pain with terminal stance and WB in gait
Pain anteromedial side of calcaneus
Pain with great toe extension
Resistive testing negative
S&S of Inversion Ankle Spains
Significant swelling
Antalgic gait
Tenderness to palpation
