The FMS (25-05-18) Flashcards
What does the FMS typically consist of?
FMC
Autopilot/flight director system (AFDS)
Auto throttle (A/T)
2 intertial reference systems (IRS)
How often must the navigation database in the FMS be updated?
Every 28 days
(AIRAC cycle)
Can a pilot change the data in the performance or navigation database in the FMS?
No the are READ ONLY to the pilot(s)
What kind of data is stored in the performance database in the FMS?
TO data
climb data
cruise data
descend data
holding data
go around data
abnormal flight conditions data (OEI)
What kind of data is stored in the navigation database in the FMS?
Nav facilities
waypoints
airports & runways
terminal procedures
approach and go around procedures
routes
comapny routes
DOES NOT CONTAIN TERRAIN/OBSTACLE DATA
How is the data in the navigation database in the FMS kept up to date?
By the operations department
What does a cost index of zero mean?
the plane is flown at maximum range thus minimum trip fuel
How does a Honeywell system FMS work?
It uses a blending of actual and predicted wind
actual wind is for course corrections in the present time
predicted wind is for downroute calculations
What is a Kalyan filter?
an algorithm used for filtering incomplete and noisy measurements of dynamical processes to minimise errors.
combines info from various sensors and beacons to get position
if inputs are lost the system will go into DR mode.
