What did William need to know about England?
1) How much land people have
2) How many people there were
3) How much people own
Why did he need to know the possessions of people?
1) So he could divide land equally and charge more money for the land people own
2) So he knew how much land to give and how many people he must tax
How did the Domesday Book help William consolidate his power?
He needed money to build and pay his army, so the bishops wrote down the amount of land every individual owned, so William can charge people the correct amount.
