Important Christian Roles Flashcards
PARISH PRIEST
This man would run the local Church and help the local people get closer to God. He would be there for all the important parts of their day-to-day lives.
POPE
The Head of the Church on Earth. Responsible for communicating God’s word to all Christians.
FRIAR
A travelling priest who met local people and told them about God.
GOD
The most important being in the Christian Church. It was believed that all power ultimately came to him. (Omnipotent - Having all power).
BISHOP/PRIOR
A rich and powerful churchman who lived in the medium-sized towns and cities, in charge of all the Parish Priests, Monks and Nuns in the area.
ARCHBISHOP
The head of the Church in England. Advised the King on important religious matters. Very rich and powerful.
MONKS AND NUNS
Men and women who gave their lives to God. They lived together in communities, often in the countryside, where they prayed together and helped the poor and sick.
ORDINARY PEOPLE
Followed the rules set by the Church and told to them by their Parish Priest, as this meant they would (hopefully) get to heaven.
