The Features of Science Flashcards
Objective
Being uninfluenced by personal opinions or past experiences, being free of bias.
Quantitative Data
Numerical Data
Theoretical
An idea that is rational and with reason
Corroborate
A test that confirms the hypothesis/ theory
Empirical
Based on investigations and evidencial data
Controlled Variables
Both the independent and dependent variables must be controlled
Rational
When an idea is reasonable (with reason) and logical
Replicable
‘To make an exact copy of something’ - helps guard against fraud, high internal validity (accuracy), high reliability, consistency in findings
Falsification
Proving the truth of a research hypothesis by demonstrating the null version is false. Scientific theories cannot be proved to be true. A test/theory that disproves a hypothesis/theory.
Paradigm
There is a general perspective/ method/ system/ model accepted by a majority of scientists
