June 20 1791 Louis realised that he wouldnt just be able to leave Paris so decide to leave to Austria. They were found at Varennes and brought back. It showed that he didnt realise how unpopular the changes were. Many no longer trusted him. The constitutional monarchy was in doubt. Republicanism started to grow.

Cordeliers organised a signing ceremony for a republican petition on the Champ De mars. 50,000 people showed up. Lafayette and National Guard fired on crowd 50 people killed and rest dispersed
