The Eye Flashcards
Purpose of Eye
Transport light into the Retina
Eye organs consist of
Cornea, Iris, Pupil, Lens, Retina
Function of Cornea
Refract the light
Function of Iris
Give color to eye and controls size of pupil
Function of Pupil
Hole infront of the lens due to iris contraction
Function of Lens
Bending light to reach retina
Function of Retina
Contains receptor cells that responds to light (theyre sensitive to light)
When Close Objects are in focus
Cillary muscles contracts, suspensory ligaments slack and the lens become thick
When Far Objects are in focus
Cillary muscles relax, suspensory ligaments tense and the lens become thin
When there is High Light Intensity
Iris sphincter contracts
Pupil gets smaller
Less light reaches the retina (protection)
When there is Low Light Intensity
Iris sphincter contracts
Pupil enlarges
More light is admitted
